Let the journey begin...

It has been a particularly dry year in Ontario and my primary canoe accomplice, who normally can't wait for our on-water adventures and never needs any coaxing to go on them, declined to go on a canoe trip this year.  So... I decided to do something different, but goal oriented (of course).

The plan is to cycle from one end of the UK to the other on Route 1 of the National Cycle Network. The route goes from Dover to the Shetlands and follow's Britain's fairly flat (thankfully) East Coast.  A total distance of 2793km!  I have to pay the bills (work) so I hope to do it in segments rather than one go.

This year I hope to spend 8 days on the road.  Unlike most UK end-to-end cyclists, I will start in the north and cycle south to England.   Due to the time off this year and currently being based in Scotland, I will start my trip in the Shetlands and work my way south to Orkney and then the mainland.  Ideally my goal is Inverness, but more realistically I think it will be Thurso or somewhere in between.   So stay tuned the journey begins next week!
